The 2023 South Korean historical action drama film 12.12: The Day revolves around a military takeover on December 12, 1979. It occurred in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and serves as the backdrop for the movie. Following President Park's murder, martial law is imposed. A coup is orchestrated by security commander Chun Doo-gwang (Hwang Jung-min) and his subordinate officers. Chun Doo-gwang battles against Lee Tae-shin (Jung Woo-sung), a determined Capital Garrison Command commander who feels that troops shouldn't engage in political activity. The military authorities put off making decisions as the two men's disagreement intensifies, and the Minister of Defence disappears. The much anticipated springtime in Seoul takes an unexpected turn amid all of this chaos. The historical action drama also features Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon, and Kim Sung-kyun and was directed by Kim Sung-su. The film will premiere on Prime Video on May 17.
